Home Design As Art Oasis In Harlem

“You should always feel like you can display what’s important to you,” says Francis Toumbakaris, founder and namesake of Francis Interiors.

With this in mind, it was important to our clients that their upscale Harlem residence become an oasis to tastefully display their collection of blue chip art, Japanese and Chinese art, and numerous Buddha heads, all collected from their countless travels around the world. With Manhattan’s southern skyline as the backdrop to the stage, Francis Interiors created designs that elevated the ambiance of the space and complemented the cultural influences that have impacted this jet-setting couple.

Each room presented a new opportunity to heighten the drama of the apartment: a low contemporary sofa allowed an unobstructed view few of the Manhattan skyline; thoughtful lighting design hid the boxiness of the HVAC duct work and adorned the ceiling with intrigue; and the dressed fireplace of black porcelain marble countered the opposing wall of custom shelving and Buddha heads. An updated kitchen equipped with modern fixtures brightened the room with light as the bathroom shared the aesthetic of fluidity and air. Finally, our clients’ bedroom evokes a museum-esque quality, with texture and color to add detail and intrigue to every corner of the room.

Through it all, the Francis Interiors team took advantage of each architectural asset while addressing and minimizing any design challenge, ensuring the clients’ needs and expectations were not only met but surpassed.
